CYBERBRAIN: CYBERSECURITY IN BCI FOR ADVANCED DRIVER ASSISTANCE

Cybersecurity in BCI has barely been studied in the literature, counting only with few limited works implementing proofs of concept in marginal scenarios. Based on that, the main objective of CyberBrain is to design and implement a framework able to detect cyberattacks affecting the BCI lifecycle using Bitbrain products.

To fulfill this objective, CyberBrain first analyzes the vulnerabilities and cybersecurity issues of Bitbrain products, both hardware, and software, to propose a list of potential countermeasures. After that, this project designs and deploys a set of cyberattacks targeting three challenging use cases that integrates Bitbrain products with an advanced driver assistance scenario. In particular, the first use case focuses on using a BCI to interact with the navigation and multimedia systems using P300 mentally evoked potentials. The second use case consists in early detection of motor reactions (including eye-tracking) and the driver’s cognitive status to avoid collisions while driving. Finally, the third use case intends to identify the subject’s emotional status to select the adequate driving mode, such as playing relaxing music if the driver is angry. Finally, the project provides the design and implementation of a framework to detect cyberattacks affecting the BCI lifecycle and Bitbrain products and measure the impact these cyberattacks may have on the products based on various metrics.
