The Cybersecurity & Data Science Lab at the University of Murcia is proud to announce the successful defense of a groundbreaking PhD thesis by Pedro Miguel Sánchez Sánchez, titled “Identical IoT Device Identification via Hardware Performance Fingerprinting and Machine Learning.” This significant achievement marks a pivotal moment in the advancement of cybersecurity and machine learning technologies, emphasizing the lab’s commitment to cutting-edge research and innovation.

Under the expert guidance of thesis directors Alberto Huertas and Gregorio Martínez Pérez, Pedro’s work has paved the way for new methodologies in identifying IoT devices, a critical step towards enhancing the security of interconnected technologies. The research group extends its deepest appreciation to the thesis directors for their unwavering support and mentorship throughout the duration of this project.

The defense committee, comprised of esteemed academics Lorenzo Fernández Maimó from University of Murcia (Spain), Juan Tapiador from University Carlos III Madrid (Spain), and Vincent Lenders from the Cyber-Defence Campus at armasuisse S&T (Switzerland), provided valuable insights and engaging discussions that enriched the research’s depth and breadth. Their participation underscored the collaborative spirit and intellectual rigor that characterizes the academic community’s approach to tackling complex challenges.

Special acknowledgment is also given to José María Jorquera Valero and Manuel Gil Perez, co-authors and colleagues from the lab, whose contributions were instrumental in the thesis’s success.
